What is HSMBB?

Formed in the fall of 2002, HSMBB is an undergraduate organization that fosters exchange across disciplines: among students who are formally involved in MBB tracks (neurobiology, psychology, philosophy, computer science, history of science, human evolutionary biology, and linguistics) or just interested in MBB-related topics and courses. HSMBB provides a variety of social, academic, and intellectual opportunities including weekly informal seminars with awesome professors, biweekly teas with food, profs, and other students interested in MBB, and comprehensive symposia that focus on broad questions within MBB.

What is MBB, and how is it different from HSMBB?

The Mind/Brain/Behavior (MBB) Interfaculty Initiative is an umbrella program at Harvard University that oversees the MBB tracks within the Harvard College undergraduate concentrations and also includes graduate and faculty research initiatives. Find out more at http://mbb.harvard.edu. The Harvard Society for Mind, Brain, and Behavior (HSMBB) is a kind of undergraduate branch of this larger MBB initiative, and HSMBB is generally funded by MBB.

Who can come to meetings and events?

All undergraduates interested in MBB-related disciplines, regardless of concentration and class year or experience with MBB subjects, are encouraged to attend! While this is primarily an undergraduate organization, other members of the Harvard community are absolutely welcome, particularly at special events.

How much of a commitment is HSMBB?

HSMBB can be as little or as much of a commitment as you want it to be; you can come to as many or as few meetings and events as they are interested in. If you're interested in joining the HSMBB board, which plans and executes all of the HSMBB events, join our mailing list to hear when we're taking applications!

How can I get more involved in HSMBB?

The best way to get involved is to come to as many teas and seminars as you can, get engaged in the discussions, and meet the board. We also always love to get input and suggestions to improve our regular events and develop some new ones. If you want to get involved in the day-to-day workings of HSMBB and help plan HSMBB events, applications for the HSMBB board are held annually. To hear about our events, as well as about board applications, sign up for our mailing list!
